Winning is Good

And Losing is bad….Yes you can quote me…..=)….In sport, we as coaches play and coach each game with such passion, so if a victory causes extreme jubilation….a loss is just the opposite. The valley after a loss is deep and dark at times. My daughters team lost the Conference Championship game yesterday. It was a bitter pill to swallow. They didn’t play to their potential. As I sat and watched, as a coach and her dad, I felt her extreme pain and disappointment. I can tell you I was really hurting, knowing how bad she felt, I’ve been there. So what can I tell her as a dad that will help her get thru this. So here it is…..

The sun will come up….She’s heard me say this so many times….but it’s true…and this new day will give us the courage to move on and start climbing out of this valley back to the next mountain top. And she has some more mountain tops to attack. This Friday she begins that challenge with the conference tournament. When I lost some tough playoff games, it was over….no more chances….the next day we were turning in our gear. But you honey have a chance to re-write the script. You are a fantastic coach with a fantastic staff. You have great players that lay their hearts on the line for you each and every day. You go to work everyday and love what you do. Not everyone can say that. So as dark as that valley is today, the Sun came up, now what you gonna do? I know what you will do…..You’re my daughter….You’re going to go up north to Menlo….and kick some ass!

Well, I did get a “W” on Friday. When the doctor gave me the good news. But it’s not over. All of us have to stay vigilant when it comes to sun exposure. Hats and sunscreen are a must. I think I may go out today and get a new hat! When I get one, I’ll post a pic!
