Some memories are Sad
Well I hope everyone had a Fantastic Christmas! I remember that the Terrier Football team would adopt a family for Christmas thru Family services each year. All those guys bringing in toys and food! It was always so overwhelming the amount of fun we had. Lupe Olmedo, Coach Olmedo’s wife, would spearhead the operation. She would organize the food and gifts because Family services would usually give us a big family because of our numbers. She was the best….always giving.
It was fun watching LSU yesterday with Dave Aranda, again doing his thing! Well it’s Clemson vs LSU….Should be a great one!
Practice Plans for the week…..Red Zone Defense…..Red Zone Offense…..3rd down Off and Def…..PUP period (pass under pressure)….some Sp. Teams…..Go Home….=)….I know the OSU fans will gripe about the call….But if they convert TDs in the RZ…..instead of FG’s….that game would have been over by halftime….period. Ask Oklahoma….Right Shane!…..inside Joke….=)
As I think back over the years at RHS, we lost a few incredible men that I called my friend. The first devastating loss was Sam Richey. He was one of those guys I inherited from the previous staff. He coached Def line. Not only was he an incredible coach but he was even a better man and father. We lost Sam just a few days prior to the team going to Hell Week in August. His death affected us all because he was so loved by so many. Not a day went by that season without us missing Sam….his smile….his advice…his encouragement….his spirituality…..his belief…..his wife’s Sweet Potato Pie….(that was for Coach Olmedo)….=) It really took us years to finally be at peace with losing Sam.
My next Blog will talk about another huge loss we had….Talk soon….Jim
Really looking forward to seeing the next blog post. I sure love you coach. So many people in our great community respect and love you because you are such an amazing man. I really am getting a kick reading about all your stories and memories about RHS football. You probably think I’m delirious but I think a lot of people would love it if you wrote a book about your entire coaching career. Giving insight about why you choose this career, what your favorite memories are, and what really went into being a head football coach, and the stuff nobody but you know about being the general to a bunch of little kids trying to become men.
