Optimist Games

Hard to believe we are in November already! I love the cooler weather! Next up Thanksgiving and all that great food! When something like this happens, you realize how important times like Thanksgiving and Christmas with your family, are so precious. Even the air seems more crisper and clear.

I received a Text from one of my good friends this morning. “Good Morning Jim. Glad everything is moving in the right direction. Hoping for the best. My referral to skin Doctor approved. Thanks and Talk Soon”. When I talked with him earlier, I told him, “go see his doctor to get a referral to a dermatologist”. Demand it. Remember with me, my doctor (who’s very good, I like him a lot) told me a spot on my temple was nothing. That was the spot that turned into a melanoma prognosis. The dermatologist found it. Period. Here endeth the lesson.

I’m glad the wind has died down a bit. Those fires were crazy. Thank God for fireman.

The CIF Playoffs start today for many teams. They learn their opponent this morning and the games begin this week on Friday. I loved this day! All the coaches were in the office working and joking. Plenty of donuts and French vanilla creamer! I remember way back when, I would assign a couple young coaches to bring in the donuts and creamer. Two of those young guys were Aaron Shires (Roosevelt HS AD now) and Brandon Ford (Head Girls Softball Coach Redlands HS). I hope, since then, they have learned how to pick good donuts because back then, they made some very poor choices. =) The good news tho, it’s hard to screw up French Vanilla creamer.

One of things I was always proud of (and there were many), was our participation in the Optimist games. This was started by Martha Mendoza and then the Optimist club stepped in to be the sponsor. This was a day of activities for the challenged students in our district, modeled after the Special Olympics. The RHS football team were active partners for many of these students. I would tell my players they will receive more than they give. I felt my team would see just how blessed they were and not to waste what they have been given. The Optimist Games were a highlight every year! No Doubt! I think, if you asked any alumni player, he could remember what he did that day.

Well, I’m still taking those Lovenox shots. I go in tomorrow to see if I can just go back to Coumadin. I added a shot of the stiches on the Melanoma Area. I’m on the mend! The scar line should line right up with my wrinkles. =)

Well it’s back to my Sunday Ticket programming, I love the RED ZONE….=)….talk soon….Jim
