Hallowed Ground

I can’t imagine what it would be like, to answer the question….”Are you a veteran of a foreign war?”…I didn’t serve our country in that capacity. My dad did, during WWII . In fact my father received the Purple Heart in the Battle of Bastogne. I don’t think my generation can relate to the complete sacrifices these men made on our behalf. In fact it’s mind boggling. My older brother served in Vietnam. And the fact is, my dad and brother never wanted to share stories of what they went thru and the friends they lost. Many of our homeless are these brothers and dads struggling to cope with those memories as well. So Sad…. I don’t know what the answer is…..But on Veterans day ….today…..I’m going to try and do something….anything….

So I went to the Wounded Warrior Project website…..and I made a donation. I know it seems like only a drop of water in a vast desert….but if we all make a few drops….we get a cup….then a gallon…..then a puddle…..You get the idea…..So go there today and make a “Drop”…. Action is always better than just words………….https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org Plus Every dollar donated TODAY will be doubled 1 for 1 by the Blue Angels Foundation….

As well as coaching football in HS for 38 years, I also taught English. My last few years at RHS, in fact, I taught English 12. So ….for all my educated blog followers …here are a few of my favorite Veterans Day quotes I used over the years……

“We sleep peaceably in our beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.”….George Orwell

“How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!”…..Maya Angelou

“In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”….Mark Twain

And Finally Mark Twain Again….my Favorite…”Anyone who has ever looked into the glazed eyes of a soldier dying on the battlefield will think hard before starting a war.”

Well I hope you all have a great day together…..and at some point….say a quick prayer for all our Heroes and Sheroes….Talk Soon….Jim
