Good afternoon Y’all, I’ve been on the phone all morning trying to figure out, how are they going to bridge me off Coumadin prior to the surgery. Talking with the surgeons nurse and the Coumadin clinic, I think we have a plan. I’m on the blood thinner, Coumadin, for prevention of blood clots. They started to ween me off Coumadin and I have to take Lovenox shots over the next 5 days, prior to and after surgery. (7 in total) I give the shot to myself. In my belly. I feel like that guy….”Get in my Belly”…..This is not a natural situation. =) Then on Monday November 4th, I’ll get another blood test to see if I need another 5 shots. Screw the cancer, pray I don’t need another 5 shots! …=)… Seriously tho, it’s just “It is what it is.” I’ll get thru it.

Well it’s 48 hours until the surgery. I just want to get it done. At first I thought they would postpone the surgery because of the Coumadin situation. But we are still a go! The countdown is still in progress.

No Pet Peeves today, but I will have a few more down the road…..=)… I guess the Lovenox shots are a peeve…..but I regress…..=)

Over the years I’ve had some great team moms. A team mom for me was as valuable as any assistant coach. Probably more valuable! (sorry guys) But it’s true. They handled pre-game meals and snacks, they helped organize Sunday Coaches dinners, they handled all our Hell camp week meals, they organized our team awards night and all of our post game meals and parties. I told the team mom’s that they had total absolute power. I just wanted to show up with the team at a designated time, eat and leave. No distractions. No issues. I can honestly say, they were magicians. Every team mom had her committee of minions. But she carried the banner. If I just mentioned only a few, I would do an in-service to all the mom’s that carried this burden of love. Those mom’s loved each kid like they were her own. When I say we were a family it was because of our team mom’s! No doubt! I can say this tho….all the team mom’s knew I loved fried chicken….we had a lot of fried chicken dinners over the years. So it is good to be the king!

Boy has Redlands changed. I can remember going to my first Benchwarmer meeting (that was the local FB booster club that was est. in 1954) . It reminded me of Hoosiers, in the barber shop. I was told at the meeting, after I let them know my views, that, and I Quote, “We ran the last guy out and we’ll run you out”…My reply was ”give it your best shot”….To which the President stated…”Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!”. Now to fast forward from there, we ended up having a great relationship, whenever we won…=) Seriously, they were a great group of men that had the athletes success at heart. Anyone who volunteers their time for the betterment of others, is blessed!

I just got off the phone with Bob Hahn. He was the athletic director that hired me in 1991. I’ll have more thoughts on Bob in tomorrows notes. This is what authors call a Tease…..=)

Talk soon….Jim
